"I regret the behavior of the Arabs… They brought African children to North Africa, they made them slaves, they sold them like animals, and they took them as slaves and traded them in a shameful way. I regret and I am ashamed when we remember these practices. I apologize for this," Gaddafi said on Sunday at the Second Afro-Arab summit in Sirte, Libya, Reuters reported.Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, and a number of other African heads of state attended the summit.
Gaddafi also warned leaders about an increasing threat of annexation and division in Africa in the event that the Sudanese decide to split the country into two states.

Contrary to many people beliefs, the Arab slave trade predates the European slave trade in Africa. The Arab slave trade began in the 7th century and lasted more than 1000 years. Africans were taken from present-day Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, and transported to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Turkey, and other parts of the Arab world. The Arab slave trade stretched over three continents at its peak.
African male slaves, who were often made eunuchs, were employed as servants, soldiers, or laborers by their Arab owners. An eunuch is a man who has been castrated and is incapable of reproduction; eunuchs usually guarded the Arab women. African female slaves were mostly purchased as concubines or house servants. ReplyDeleteThe transatlantic slave trade was worse in regards to black people since it specifically targeted black Africans. While the Arab slave trade targeted people of all colors including Europeans. Plus the transatlantic slave trade lead to the scramble for Africa. Also during the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries when the Arab slave trade was taking place the strongest black African empires in history, the Mali and Songhai empires, were flourishing and at the peak of their power. The Arab slave trade was terrible but the transatlantic slave trade hurt Africans during the 400 years it was taking place and it has affected black people globally to this very day. Had there been no transatlantic slave trade and thus no colonialism then Africa would probably be a much, much stronger continent today and black people would have much more power, freedom and wealth.

Other ethnic groups had a smaller survival rate under harsh conditions.The cruel arab slave trade targeted them and other ethnic groups because of lack of respect for other people, religions and cultures.
DeleteThe Arab slvae trade lasted for 15 centuries. It is estimated that during this time more than 100 million black Africans died at the hands of the Arab slave traders. This eclipses the transatlantic slave trade.
ReplyDeleteThe Muslim/Arab slave Trade was far worse and lasted far longer than the trans Atlantic Slave Trade. Muslims invaded and colonised Africa 642-711ad and have never left: they are still there to this day and they are still enslaving Africans as we saw a couple years ago in the slave auctions of Libya. Only a partisan person or one filled with hate for Whites would argue that European slavery was worse than Arab slavery. The historical facts simply do not support this view!
